Cafco® SC125 - Water Based Synthetic Latex
INTRODUCTION
CAFCO® SC125 is a single pack, ready to use, synthetic latex, water based emulsion for use as an elastomeric sealer. It is designed for application to primed steel.
CAFCO® SC125 forms part of the Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 and Cafco MANDOLITE® HS3 passive fire protection systems.
Building types that will benefit from the use of CAFCO® SC125, include a wide range of educational, leisure and entertainment centres, commercial and industrial projects.
| Properties and performance |
| Colour and finish |
Yellow with a slight sheen (nearest to BS 4800: 1981, colour code 06 E 50). May be applied by spray, roller or brush |
| Typical thickness |
100-150 microns wet fillm thickness (WFT)
Do not apply less than 100 microns WFT
55-82 microns dry film thickness (DFT) |
| Practical coverage |
Dependent on surface texture, substrate porosity, application
method and technique |
| Theoretical coverage |
8m2/litre at 125 microns WFT |
| Number of coats |
One or more as required dependent on application technique. May be recoated once previous coat is touch dry |
| Maximum over coating time |
2 months with either more CAFCO® SC125, Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 or Cafco MANDOLITE® HS3 |
| Cure |
By air drying |
| Drying time |
Touch dry ½ to 1 hour at 20ºC and RH 50%
Fully dry 2 to 6 hours at 20ºC and RH 50%
The drying time will vary with ambient conditions, but high humidity, low temperature and low air change will hinder cure significantly |
| Solids by weight |
55% |
| Weight |
1.25kg/litre |
ADVANTAGES
-
Suitable as a sealer over alkali sensitive primers that have been applied to internal steel or concrete substrates where flexing or distortion (within normal design codes) may occur.
-
Will accommodate such movement and minimise the risk of the debonding or consequent cracking of Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 and Cafco MANDOLITE® HS3.
| Preparation |
| Typical substrates |
Primed steel |
| Substrate preparation |
The substrate must be clean, dry and free from visible moisture (including condensation), dust, loose millscale, loose rust, oil and any other condition preventing good adhesion
|
| Application |
| Initial steps |
Stir contents before use. Do not thin |
| Methods |
CAFCO® SC125 may be applied with an industrial type airless or air-assisted spray, or lambswool roller. It may also be applied with a wide, soft nylon brush in small (maximum 1m2) areas only |
| Limitations |
CAFCO® SC125 may be applied when the substrate and air temperatures are at least 2ºC and rising. Maximum air and substrate temperature is 45ºC
Substrate temperature should be at least 2ºC above dew point temperature
Protect from rain, hail etc until dry
