Jet Fire Approval for Fendolite MII
15/06/2001
We believe that Fendolite MII is the only passive coating system to have full Lloyd`s Jet Fire type approval without a prescribed increase in material thicknesses and furthermore for Jet Fire rating periods of up to 4 hours.
This means that structures and vessels already protected using Fendolite MII may be deemed to be equally fire rated for both Hydrocarbon Pool Fire and the potentially more destructive fire scenario created by erosive Jet Fire impingement.
“Jet Fire” resistance is increasingly being required for the protection of steel structures within the oil and gas, and petrochemical industries. This type of testing evolved from the recognition that fire resulting from the rupture of pressurised vessels could result in much more destructive fire scenarios than those involved in standard hydrocarbon fuelled pool fires.
Fendolite MII was introduced to the market in or around 1980 and has been used extensively on a worldwide basis for fire protection on onshore structures, particularly hydrocarbon processing facilities. The structures protected include, structural steel, pipe racks, equipment, storage vessels, vessel supports, concrete beams and tunnel linings.
Structures protected with Fendolite MII have been subjected to a wide range of Fire Resistance tests under a wide variety of fire scenarios. These include, Cellulosic, Hydrocarbon, RWS type high-rise ( up to 1350°C ) and various Jet fire test conditions. Some of these tests have also included thermal shock tests with very erosive high pressure water impingement after fire exposure.
The close colleration in the performance of Fendolite MII and another CAFCO International product, Mandolite 550. Which is specifically designed for use on Offshore structures has meant that Lloyd`s have accepted that the following Jet Fire tests on Mandolite 550 can now also be applied to Fendolite MII.
1. Shell Offshore Flame Impingement Protection Programme ( SOFIPP ) Part 2. 1990.
2. SINTEF Jet Fire tests on two steel plates insulated with Mandolite 550 – Task No: 250000.00/88.364.
